Soft Pastels are a chalky, dry pastel that can be easily blended with a finger and produce bright colours as the pure pigment is compressed into a stick form.

Oil Pastels are made from pigment mixed with non drying linseed oil, making them similar to oil paint.  Colours can be layered on top of one another and used with oil paint. Oil Pastels can be blended and thinned with turpentine.
