Welcome to our Liquitex Online Shop

Liquitex Acrylic Paint was created in 1955 by Henry Levison and was the first water-based artists’ acrylic on the market. In the 1960’s, a heavy body acrylic called Liquitex High Viscosity Artist Colour, was developed, to offer artists a more oil paint-like consistency. Over time, more and more Liquitex products were invented, including a range of acrylic mediums, inks, brushes, spray paints and marker pens. In 1984 Liquitex was the first paint to be labelled for ASTM standards, for toxicity, quality and lightfastness. This is what makes it a favourite brand amongst acrylic artists.

Liquitex are constantly creating new products, resulting in the advanced range that we have today. Here at Pullingers, we stock the full colour range of Liquitex Professional Acrylic Paints in 59ml tubes in soft and heavy body, Acrylic Ink and the new Liquitex Professional Acrylic Gouache Paints. We also have a large selection of Liquitex Paint Brushes and Acrylic Mediums, including Pouring Medium, Gesso and Varnishes. Some of the popular ranges of Liquitex art supplies that we stock include:

Liquitex Professional Acrylic Paints

Liquitex Heavy Body is a thick, richly pigmented, lightfast acrylic paint. It holds brush strokes and can be applied with a palette knife to create impasto techniques. There are over 100 colours to choose from in the 59ml tube size.

Liquitex Soft Body is a water-based artists acrylic with low viscosity (it’s very fluid). This makes it an ideal choice for fine detail painting, pouring (great with Liquitex Pouring Medium), glazing, blending, airbrushing and more. It has high concentrations of ultra-fine artist-quality pigments so a little goes a long way. There are 100 lightfast colours in the 59ml range, including the new cadmium free colours.

In 2018, Liquitex introduced Acrylic Gouache Paints. These ultra-pigmented acrylics produce a solid matt finish. They are non-cracking, permanent and water-resistant once dry. Available in 50 lightfast opaque / semi-opaque colours in 59ml bottles.

Liquitex Acrylic Paints can be used on virtually any surface, including canvas, wood, fabrics, glass, paper & board, metal, plaster, brick and clay.

Liquitex Acrylic Inks

Liquitex Professional Acrylic Inks come in a selection of sets and 30 single colours in 30ml glass bottles with an ink dropper lid. These extremely fluid inks are made using super fine pigments suspended in an acrylic emulsion. They are quick drying, permanent, water resistant and non-clogging. Ideal for a variety of techniques from watercolour effects to airbrushing. They can be used on wood, leather, canvas, silk, plastic, metal, paper, etc.

Liquitex Pouring Mediums

Pouring Acrylic has become very popular painting technique over the last couple of years. It involves mixing Liquitex Pouring Medium with a soft body acrylic or ink, to create a fluid acrylic that can be poured over surfaces. The colours do not mix together, creating a marbled paint effect with an ultra-glossy, smooth finish. Liquitex Pouring Medium is available in several sizes and in a glossy, matt, or iridescent finish.

Liquitex Acrylic Mediums

When it comes to Liquitex Acrylic Mediums, there is a huge choice, with a medium for every painting technique and surface. There are mediums to prep your surface all the way through to protecting your finished masterpiece, including professional acrylic gesso, effect mediums, fluid mediums, gels and pastes, additives and varnishes. All of them are a permanent, acrylic-based medium.

Before you start painting with acrylics, you need to make sure that your surface is suitably primed (some canvases and specialist papers come primed already). This will add a tooth to the surface for the paint to adhere to and stops the paint from being absorbed into the surface. Liquitex Professional Gessoes create the perfect ground and can be used on most surfaces, including metal, canvas and wood. They are acid free and come in different thicknesses and colours, including clear, white, black and grey.

If you need to thin your acrylic paint, it is best to use a Fluid Medium rather than water. If you add too much water, it can cause the paint to separate from the acrylic binder. We would recommend using a gloss or matt medium, depending on the finish that you are after. To thicken your acrylic paint or to add texture to it for impasto techniques, just add one of the Liquitex Gels or Pastes.

There is also a range of Liquitex Effect Mediums. These can be used to add texture, make your paint iridescent, use it through an airbrush, paint it on fabric and more! Perfect for experimenting with acrylic paints.

Liquitex Additives are used to change the way the acrylic paint works without effecting the quality of the paint. For example, if you are finding that your acrylic paint is drying too quickly, then add a Slow-Dri Additive to it. This can extend the drying time by up to 40%. Perfect for large scale paintings when you need to mix a large quantity of paint and you don’t want it to dry out before you’ve finished using it.

Finally, when your painting is complete, you may want to varnish it to protect from UV light and dirt. With a wide selection of Liquitex Professional Acrylic Varnishes available, there is bound to be a varnish for you. There are different sheens available, including gloss, satin and matt and permanent and removable varnishes.
