Daler Rowney Fine Grain Heavyweight Pad 200gsm is built for serious drawing work. The 200gsm cartridge paper carries a fine grain texture that holds graphite, charcoal, pastel and pen and ink with excellent control, while remaining robust enough for light watercolour washes and ink techniques. At twice the weight of standard cartridge paper, the surface is forgiving under correction and reworking — making it the right choice when a drawing matters.
The fine grain texture gives the paper a subtle tooth, making it particularly well suited to pencil, graphite, charcoal, pastel and pen and ink. The lightly textured surface provides improved grip for tonal work, shading and expressive mark-making while still supporting controlled detail.
The heavyweight 200gsm paper also handles light watercolour washes and ink techniques with ease, offering greater durability and stability than lighter cartridge papers. Its robust surface makes it forgiving for corrections and reworking, making it ideal for more developed drawings and layered techniques.
Each pad contains 30 sheets and is gummed along one edge, allowing pages to be removed cleanly and easily. This makes the pad suitable for finished work, presentation and portfolio use as well as everyday studio practice.
Acid-free and free from optical brightening agents, the paper helps preserve artwork over time without colour distortion. FSC®-certified (FSC-C111372) and made in France, these pads offer dependable quality for students and professional artists alike.
Who is this pad for?
Art students producing assessed work will value the forgiving surface and clean sheet removal for presentation. Intermediate and professional artists working in graphite, charcoal or mixed dry media will find the 200gsm weight gives their work a solidity that lighter cartridge papers can't match. Life drawing, botanical illustration, urban sketching and tonal studies are all natural fits. If you work wet — with ink washes, diluted watercolour or brush and ink — the heavyweight paper resists cockling far better than lighter alternatives.
Which should I choose?
Looking for a lighter, more flexible paper for sketching and studies? The Fine Grain Drawing Pad 120gsm is ideal for quick studies and gesture drawing. The Fine Grain Cartridge Pad 160gsm suits everyday mixed-media work. The 200gsm Heavyweight Pad is the choice when your drawing is the finished piece.
